Youth Public Safety Academy Operational Manager/Administrative Assistant

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for our Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA).  The goal of the YPSA is to establish respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals. All YPSA staff will help children build confidence and work as a team while focusing on the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.   

Duties:

Under the supervision of the YPSA Director, the Operational Manager/Administrative Assistant must be able to work from 7AM to 5PM (flexible hours) Monday - Friday at the YPSA, located at the MSO Training Academy in Chelmsford, MA. 

The Operational Manager/Administrative Assistant will provide direction and support for the YPSA and are responsible for managing the YPSA counselors and assisting the YPSA Director as needed. They must be able to supervise and manage both Counselors and Cadets, and lead staff and Cadets during offsite events such as Community Day and YPSA graduation. They also assist food and grounds preparations for the camp each day, relieve counselors during necessary breaks, and enforcing community rules during the YPSA. Must perform other work duties as assigned by the YPSA Director or designee.
Additionally, the Operational Manager/Administrative Assistant is responsible for coordinating camp registrations, entering purchase orders for YPSA supplies, maintaining the inventory of those supplies, and fielding phone calls and emails from parents, public safety professionals, and YPSA/MSO staff members. This position also assists the YPSA Director with the preparations for the weekly YPSA graduation.
Ideal candidates will have superior communication skills with parents, public safety personnel, and YPSA/MSO management. Past experience working with children with disabilities is preferred. Counselors work on a contractual seasonal basis from June 29, 2026 through August 14, 2026. Must work well with children in a positive educational environment and have the ability to teach young children about public safety.  Perform other related work as required.
 
Qualifications: 
  • Eighteen (18) years or older; possess a High School diploma or equivalent; prior to start date;
  • Prior experience working with students and young children;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Must attend a temporary training academy

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  The applicant must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts, pass a criminal background check and subject to mandatory random drug testing.

Hourly Rate:
  $30.00.  No additional compensation or benefits offered.
