The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for our Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA). The goal of the YPSA is to establish respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals. Coordinators/Counselors will help children build confidence and work as a team while focusing on the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.
Duties:
The MSO’s YPSA is an inclusive, positive educational environment for all children between the ages of 9-12 with varying abilities to learn about public safety. Under the direct supervision of the YPSA Director, the Senior Counselor is primarily responsible for providing direction and support for the YPSA, managing the YPSA counselors and assisting the YPSA Director when needed. The Senior Counselor must be able to work a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00AM to 5:00PM at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Training Academy located in Chelmsford, MA. Counselors work on a contractual seasonal basis from June 23, 2025 through August 8, 2025.
Qualifications:
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. The applicant must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts, pass a criminal background check and subject to mandatory random drug testing.
Hourly Rate: $27.00. No additional compensation or benefits offered.

Qualifications:
- Twenty (20) years or older;
- Possess a High School diploma or equivalent; prior to start date;
- Good communication skills;
- Must attend a temporary training academy;
- Prior experience working with children with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
- Prior experience as a counselor or educator preferred;
